Privacy Policy

Just like we love, thank, and respect the water, we love, thank, and respect you. Through this privacy policy we hope to live our deep respect to all our relatives.

We ask everyone who participates in Nibi Walk activities to honor the privacy that surrounds our ceremonies. For example, we ask that people make no recordings of our ceremony including some of the songs that we sing. If you have a question about what part of the ceremony or which song can be shared and what is private please ask.

This privacy policy applies to all Nibi Walk activities including website and email communications. This policy does not apply to third party websites or applications such as Facebook.

About Collecting Personal Information

Nibi Walk collects your personal information because we want to be connected to you and be of service. We want to be able to reach you so we can send you email newsletters and invitations to participate in or support our work for the water. If you don’t want to be on our mailing list, you can opt out anytime.

Nibi Walk only sends information to folks who ask for it, usually when you fill out a form on our website, or on one of the platforms that we show up on (Facebook, for instance), or when you sign up for an event or in a conversation with us. What information we collect depends entirely on how you interact with Nibi Walk and how much you choose to share. We don’t take anything you don’t voluntarily share with us – we’re not looking you up on the internet to collect personal data.

Because of the way technology works we also collect information about how you use our services, such as the types of content you view or engage with or the frequency and duration of your activities. We collect information from or about the computers, phones, tablets, or other devices where you install or access the Service. Examples of device information include:

  • Operating system, hardware version, device settings, file and software names and types, battery and signal strength, device identifiers, device locations, connection information, ISP, browser type, language and time zone, and IP address.

We do not store credit card information. All payment information is stored within secure third party platforms (currently Give MN) whose business is to do that securely with high levels of encryption. We cannot, for instance, look up your credit card number ourselves and use it.

We also use personal information to help create, develop, operate, deliver, and improve our communications, fundraising, and community building, and for loss prevention and anti-fraud purposes.

Non-Personal Information Collection and Use

We also collect data that does not permit direct association with any specific individual. We may collect, use, transfer, and disclose non-personal information for any purpose. For example, we may collect information such as language, zip code, unique device identifier, referrer URL, location, and time zone to better understand our community and improve what we do.

If we do combine non-personal information with personal information, the combined information will be treated as personal information for as long as it remains combined.

Log Data, Website Comments & Media

We want to inform you that whenever you visit us online, we collect information that your browser sends to us that is called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser version, pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Service Providers

We don’t share your information with anyone. We may use third party companies for the purposes of sending our emails, processing credit cards, spam detection or in some other way to deliver our services to you. These third parties have access to your personal information in order to do tasks on our behalf. Nibi Walk will only share information to provide or improve our products, services, and advertising; it will not be shared with third parties for their marketing purposes.

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. Keep in mind that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Links to Other Sites

Our communications may contain links to other sites, included embedded content such as videos. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Children’s Privacy

Nibi Walk does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to perform the necessary actions.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, we advise you to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately, after they are posted on this page.
